Hiten Paintal returns to television after 14 years: I strongly believe that there is no age for life to begin

After a hiatus of 14 years, Hiten Paintal, who was last seen in Kasautii Zindagii Kay, is returning to television with Muskuraane Ki Vajah Tum Ho. He will be seen as the male lead’s brother-in-law, who is a politician aspiring to make it big in politics. So, what kept him away from the small screen? He replies, “On a couple of occasions in the past when I was busy with daily soaps, I got a few offers for films. I obviously couldn’t take them up because I didn’t have dates to spare. There was a phase in between when people assumed that I didn’t want to take up TV shows. I was focusing on films and OTT, but the projects I was in talks for had to be suspended owing to the pandemic. Also, I was busy with my home production and direction as well. But now, I want to return to the small screen. I am glad that things have fallen into place and I am back in action with a grey-shaded character.”

A long break also means that he may have to settle for older characters and not necessarily his age. Is he prepared for it? “I don’t fear getting typecast. We have witnessed actors in their 50s play college-going students and younger actors essay 50-year-olds. I feel blessed that I don’t look my age. Now, it has disadvantages as well. I have lost out on a few films because I looked younger for the part. I strongly believe that there is no age for life to begin,” he replies.

Hiten is all focused on his work and exploring different aspects of the craft, be it acting, production or direction. Does that leave him with any time for a relationship, we ask. He says, “I am single and enjoying this phase. In fact, my friends, who are married, tell me to stay a bachelor (laughs!). On a serious note, I have not met the right person. It’s not that I am averse to marriage but there are certain inexplicable apprehensions.”

Talking about his ideal partner, he says, “The person should not be dramatic about things. We do a lot of it in front of the camera, so I don’t want any real-life drama. I hope to be with someone, who is happy-go-lucky and chilled out. Khush raho aur rakho.”
