A major terror attack on Amarnath pilgrims was averted with the killing of two Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists, including one from Pakistan, in an encounter in Srinagar’s Bemina area early Tuesday. Later in the day, another gunfight broke out between a joint team of security forces and terrorists in Khudwani area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, where two to three terrorists were believed trapped. The fire exchange continued till the time of going to press.

The J&K police had informed that in the initial exchange of fire, three Police personnel and one Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel got injured and were subsequently shifted to hospital.
Two unidentified militants and a civilian were killed in an encounter between the ultras and security forces in Hyderpora area of the city on Monday, police said. The encounter broke out near Classic Hospital here when security forces launched an anti-militancy operation, a police official said.
