The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup (initially ICC World Twenty20) is the international cricket tournament of T20I format. The last edition of the tournament was due to be played in 2020, in Australia, but due to the worldwide Covid-19 outbreak, it was postponed. The postponed edition will be played in Australia in 2022. India were scheduled to host the 2021 edition as planned earlier. Due to the Covid-19 situation in India, the 2021 tournament was shifted to the UAE and Oman. India though are still the official hosts. There are three stages in the tournament in this edition - Round 1, Super 12 and the knockouts. There are a total of 16 teams. 8 teams are playing Round 1. The top four teams across the two groups of Round 1 will join the 8 teams who have automatically qualified for the Super 12 stage by virtue of their ICC T20I world rankings. The teams playing in Round 1 are Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Ireland, Netherlands, Oman, Namibia, Scotland and Papua New Guinea. They are battling for the four vacant spots to join the other eight teams- India, Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan, Afghanistan and West Indies in the Super-12, the second round of the tournament.
