‘Bimbisara’ is a 2022 Telugu fantasy action film written and directed by debutant director Mallidi Vassista and produced by NTR Arts. The film stars Nandamuri Kalyan Ram, Catherine Tresa, and Samyuktha Menon as the lead.
The film is said to be a time travel drama that narrates a story of an ancient evil Indian king ‘Bimbisara’ of the Trigartala Empire who lands in the modern-day world.

The film is said to be a four-part franchise, with each sequal releasing every year, starting from 2022. The movie generally carries a positive vibe from its earlier previews. Several of Kalyan Ram’s fans who saw the film are going gaga over the team's performance, sets, and visual grandeur of the film. A few are lauding MM. Keeravani’s background score as well.

So that’s how it all started. Then I approached Kalyan Ram garu, as I knew him before as I worked on his ‘Pataas’ before.     ​Could you please tell us how the idea of making 'Bimbisara' clicked?

    It started in 2018, while I was watching Time travel movies, I realized that so far whoever has tried narrating time travel stories has only toured and not many explored it from past to present or future.     ​What are the problems you faced while researching the ‘Bimbisara’ subject and while making this film?

Keeravani garu finally said he wants to watch the film before he does the BGM (mention the full name).     ​All these films such as ‘Magadheera’, ‘Baahubali’ or ‘Aditya 369’ that were compared with your film are not just popular for its content but also its music whereas your film has only 2 songs, Why?

  • See, you’ll always have this struggle as a newcomer, no matter what great story you have, actors & producers will have second thoughts about going ahead with you. Therefore I had my struggles before actually making it a reality. It also depends on what commitments the actor and producer have. I also have discussed this film Sireesh but due to its huge budget, I have to backstep.<br /> <br /><ul><li><strong>Is there any specific reason for releasing this film in two parts?</strong></li></ul> <br />If you take our Mahabharat there are many sub-plots in it, there are several stories within each story. In the same way, even this film has lots of sub-plots and if I make it into one the film will become a 4-5 hours film. Therefore, if I have to make it without cutting anything I had to make it in two parts. Moreover, it was a conscious decision while scripting itself that the film has to be made in two parts.<br /> <br /><ul><li><strong>Why is this film not released as a Pan-India film? Just like ‘Baahubali’?</strong></li></ul> <br /><p>There is no special reason, but will be released across the globe in its Telugu version. Being a first-time director, I felt like first let me prove in our language before going further. Moreover, Pan-India film is not all about dubbing the film and releasing it in as many languages as possible.     It is heard that you have narrated this script to several actors such as Ravi Teja and a few others but none accepted this until Kalyan Ram signed it, what do you have to say about it?

That will be highlighting his other angles and events and that will be the only linking factor, not with the story. A few characters will travel from the first part to the second part that will have more importance in the 2nd part than in the first one.<br /><br /><ul><li><strong>Did you speak with any historians before blocking the script?</strong></li></ul> <br /><p>We didn’t show Bimbisara in any bad light nor humiliated him with a wrong story. We didn’t touch anything from the history related to him other than his name, So, there is no point in someone finding fault with our storyline.
