Techie death: Noida cops say arrests made on basis of video evidence
Akash was arrested from near Sector 59 police station on Friday evening. He had fled to Meerut initially and returned to Noida. He was hiding at a relative's place. He kept changing his location continuously," additional DCP (central Noida) Ankita Sharma said. Akash is originally a Meerut resident while Arjun lives in Ghaziabad.
Akash joined the police in 2020. In Noida, he was posted at Sector 49 police station as a computer operator. An FIR was filed under sections of rape and murder after the IT executive's father alleged she had been sexually assaulted and her death was made to look like suicide. He cited the video she had sent in which she talks of being entrapped by Akash while appealing to Arjun for help.
The video, a senior police officer said, was found to have been recorded at Akash's flat in Noida on Sunday (July 31) night. The IT executive had checked into a hotel in Sector 70 around 9pm on Monday (August 1) and was found dead the next afternoon when she did not respond at the checkout time. Police have scanned CCTV footage and confirmed she had no visitors. The autopsy report has ruled out sexual assault.
A senior police officer said the arrests had been made based on video evidence. "The video was found to have been recorded by her at Akash's flat on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. It is like a dying declaration," a senior police officer said. "She sent the video to Arjun on Monday morning, which was ignored by him. Both have been charged under Section 306 (abetment to suicide)," the officer added.
Police had earlier said Akash, Arjun and the woman had met at Gardens Galleria Mall on Sunday evening at a cafe. Former colleagues, Arjun and the woman frequented the cafe, which Akash too visited regularly and that's how they met, according to investigators.
