Video surfaces purportedly showing ex-Cong MLA caning, abusing SDMC staff

A video purportedly showing a former Congress MLA in Okhla area of the city caning and abusing staff of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) for allegedly removing hoardings and posters put up by him has surfaced. Reacting to the incident, police on Friday said they will be registering an FIR in the matter. However, former Congress MLA Mohammad Asif Khan said he had no knowledge that they were SDMC staff. The Delhi high court Friday stayed a trial court order directing action against two Delhi police officials for filing distinct charge sheets in a POCSO case. Justice Anu Malhotra issued notice on the petition by the two officials -- station head officer (SHO) of the police station concerned and investigating officer (IO)-- and sought a status report from the state. Criminals shot at cop in Greater Noida

A police post in-charge in Uttar Pradesh's Greater Noida was hospitalised with injuries after two unidentified criminals shot him in the leg on Friday, officials said. Lalu Prasad admitted to emergency department of AIIMS-Delhi

RJD leader and former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad was admitted to the emergency department of AIIMS-Delhi, on Friday, hospital sources said. The veteran politician is learnt to be suffering from fever and is drowsy. His condition is not serious and is stable. His blood samples have been sent for investigations and reports are awaited, a source said. (PTI)

Tractors bedecked with lights and posters rolled through the Singhu border protest site and loud Punjabi and Haryanvi celebratory music filled in the air on Friday as farmers marked one year of the protest against the three farm laws the government is set to withdraw formally. Farmers flaunting colourful turbans, sunshades, long beards and twirling moustaches danced on the roofs of tractors, distributed sweets and hugged each other to mark the occasion that seemed like a festival. Delhi HC refuses to entertain 19-year old's 'blackmailing type' plea concerning approval to IPOs

The Delhi high court on Friday refused to entertain a 19-year old's plea against the “hasty manner in which IPOs are passed”, observing that "it is a blackmailing type of petition” and asked if it was filed to “harass some companies” and "at whose behest". The issues raised in the petition involve “fine niceties” which are governed by special laws and unlikely to concern such a young petitioner, said a bench headed by chief justice D N Patel.

Plea in SC seeks fair investigation on complaint regarding hate crime in Noida

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking a fair investigation and trial on a complaint by a senior citizen who has claimed that he was abused and tortured in an alleged hate crime in Noida in July this year. The plea, which has also sought initiation of appropriate departmental or punitive proceedings against some police officers of district Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida, Uttar Pradesh) for allegedly failing to comply with the preventive and remedial measures as directed by the apex court in one of its earlier verdicts, came up for hearing on Friday before a bench of justices A M Khanwilkar and justice C T Ravikumar. Delhi govt adds Kartarpur Sahib in Mukhyamantri Tirth Yatra Yojna

The Delhi government will send senior citizens of the city on free pilgrimage to Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan on January 5 next year, an official statement said on Friday. Kartarpur Sahib and Velankanni Church in Tamil Nadu have been added to the ‘Mukhyamantri Tirth Yatra Yojna' after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's orders, it said. (PTI)

Crackdown continues on overstaying foreigners in Delhi, 6 more held

The crackdown on the illegally residing foreign nationals in the national capital continued as Delhi Police has apprehended six more foreigners with an expired visa, an official said here on Friday. According to the official, a police team of the Dwarka district nabbed six Africans roaming in the area of Mohan Garden police station. Farmers in hundreds descend at Delhi-UP border on protest anniversary

Hundreds of farmers in tractors started arriving at Ghazipur on the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border as Friday marked one year of the ongoing farmers' protest against the central laws. Many of them brought along vegetables, sacks of flour and lentils, spices and cooking oil on their tractor-trollies, saying they have come prepared for a long haul. Delhi Court denies bail to man posing as IPS officer

A Delhi court on Friday refused bail to a man accused of entering the Information Bureau (IB) office in a car impersonating as a newly-recruited IPS officer saying the accused may flee justice if released on bail. Metropolitan magistrate Manu Shree dismissed Pradeep Sharma's bail application while considering the seriousness of the allegations and the facts at the initial stage, saying the accused may try to influence witnesses or tamper with the evidence if enlarged on bail.
